Coraline is a 2009 animated stop-motion fantasy film based on Neil Gaiman’s novella of the same name. It will be animated and co-directed by Henry Selick and Mike Cachuela and is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 6, 2009.

The story of a young girl who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home, and enters into an adventure in a parallel reality. On the surface, this other world eerily mimics her own life–though much more fantastical. In it, Coraline encounters such off-kilter inhabitants as the morbidly funny Miss Forcible and Miss Spink, and a counterfeit mother–who attempts to keep her. Ultimately, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home.

Coraline as depicted in the film.Laika Entertainment House (formerly Vinton Studios) has funded the film with around $50 to $70 million. Coraline is the first stop-motion animation to be shot stereoscopically with a dual digital camera rig for digital 3-D exhibition. New tools are being developed which will give the stop-motion creators the same flexibility as CGI animators, making it possible to push objects forward and back in post-production. Dakota Fanning will star as the voice of Coraline. Teri Hatcher will lend her voice to the roles of both Coraline’s Mother and her Other Mother. Ian McShane will voice Mr. Bobinski, a beet-eating Russian giant who lives upstairs from Coraline in her alternate reality.

This is one of many cool  3D images  that blogger Darkmatters received in his “Coraline” Mystery Box. They came with a beautiful 3D viewer; an old-world Viewmaster of sorts. They refer to these as Magic-Eye or Parallel-Viewing images.  Don’t have a handmade viewer from Laika films, no problem: cross your eyes.

NO. 46/50

Gothic poet and illustrator The Kreep (a.k.a R. O’Donnell) has received an entirely handmade box of treasures collected specifically for him by the CORALINE team at Laika films. Inside the box, numbered 46/50, are highly decorated secret compartments that contain relics from the film including a bat/dog model, a bat body mold, authentic skeleton key with secret password, and a wing skeleton prototype #3. An old envelop with a wax seal with inlaid black button (as used for the eyes of the witch) and a hand-typed note explained the curious gift:

DEAR R.,

SINCERELY,

THE CORALINE TEAM

For the last three years, 351 of the world’s oddest and most talented animators, artisans, and puppet fabricators have been hand-making CORALINE. Led by Henry Selick, the director of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, this team has created the first stop-motion feature shot entirely in 3D. Based on the beloved best-selling children’s classic by Neil Gaiman, CORALINE is a fairy-tale nightmare steeped in classic storytelling, craftsmanship, and the old-fashioned art of moviemaking magic. CORALINE hits theatres February 2009.

Angelspit’s new album ‘BLOOD DEATH IVORY’ is now available.

“Their incredibly unique sound and attitude remain, but with a slight tweaking of theme and mood. Blood Death Ivory does not disappoint and is sure to tickle Angelspit’s ever growing fan base.”

- ReGen Magazine (Trubie Turner)

“This is electro-industrial music at its best: this is probably what the new EBM is or should be now.”

- Chain DLK (Marc Urselli-Schaerer)

“This is what electropunk should sound like. Angelspit defines the future musical framework for this genre on Blood Death Ivory.”

- Gothtronic Webzine (TekNoir)

With their highly acclaimed debut album Krankhaus and their impressive visceral live performances, Angelspit have cemented themselves as being one of the most innovative new industrial bands. With their merciless dual vocal assault, intense electronic mayhem and murderous guitars, Destroyx and Zoog have thrilled and revolted countless audiences globally. Angelspit’s subversive visuals are equally confronting- as their unique brand of vicious fashion and hellish aesthetics influence a new wave of cyber punk music, fashion and art.

Hot off the success of their debut album Krankhaus, Angelspit have returned with a new barrage of ballistic electro punk in their new 11 track album Blood Death Ivory. The album will continue to blow fans away and disgust the status quo, as Angelspit experiment with sonic brutality combined with infectious and chemically sweetened melodies. Their tortured synthesizers, crushing bass and stomping beats get into your head and up to no good. Angelspit’s fierce yet seductive vocals distort beauty with chaos, doing violence to conservativism, apathy and a society fixated with consumerism. With the massive sounding Blood Death Ivory, it’s clear that Angelspit won’t be silenced.

“So now is my time to create and share with you in the hopes that you enjoy the art as much as I do.”

“I’ve been fortunate enough in my career to earn a living doing what I love. By day I work as Creative Director of hardlines product development for Cartoon Network and at night, (when the family has gone to sleep,) I tinker away in my studio creating art. My responsibilites at CN include creating style guides and overseeing development of licensed product for toys, video games, sporting goods, publishing and more. This balance between fine and commercial art has lead me to join the realm of a relatively new artistic movement. Whether it’s referred to as lowbrow, pop-surrealism or any other term that gets thrown around, the fact is that the boundaries between fine art that hangs in galleries and commercialized merchandise that sells in stores have been blurred. Thank God! My influences come from a number of people, styles, experiences and music and am truly inspired by the increasing success many contemporary artists are enjoying. So now is my time to create and share with you in the hopes that you enjoy the art as much as I do.” -Dienzo

“The Pains & Pleasures show was highlighted by Rolling Stones 2002 article as “Things not to miss on Ozzfest” and mentioned in USA Today. “

Angela, also known as Eve, is the creator of Eve’s Parlor Burlesque. The show has achieved great levels of success in the Chicago Burlesque scene, selling out many performances this past year. Eve, Angela’s alter ego, first showed up on Ozzfest with a sideshow and merchandise booth she created for the tour several years back. This was a natural progression from her own line of body adornment, costumes, and jewelry that she created to be wholesaled and sold at major music festivals. Selling her wares on the music festival circuit lead her to eventually creating her own sideshow performance for Ozzfest. The show was called Eves Parlor: Pains and Pleasures.

The performance was specifically created for the tour and traveled with Ozzfest for several years. Pains & Pleasures was a vaudevillian funked out Dominatrix sideshow and picture booth that featured artistes Eve and Luxxx. Luxxx is one of the featured performers from past shows and was instrumental in helping to create Pains & Pleasures for the tour as well as being a major contributer in the creation of the famous Rack (artist Ray Thurman is also noteworthy). The Pains & Pleasures show was highlighted by Rolling Stones 2002 article as “Things not to miss on Ozzfest” and mentioned in USA Today. Eves Parlor Burlesque was born out of this show. Many beautiful women have graced the stage with their talent and energy to make this a unique show. Featured Performers are: Krysten Corruption,Trinity, Miss Maya Sinstress, Nikkie, Foxy, Lux, Renea, Tina Tip Toe, Holypeneo and many more. CHET ZAR BRINGS FORTH WHAT’S INSIDE HIM

“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”

The combined interest in horror films and art eventually culminated into a career as a special effects make up artist, designer and sculptor for the motion picture industry, designing and creating creatures and make up effects for such films as, “The Ring”, “Hellboy”, “Planet of the Apes” and the critically acclaimed music videos for the art metal band, Tool. For the last 7 years Zar has also embraced the digital side of special effects as well, utilizing the computer to translate his dark vision with 3D animation for Tool’s live shows and subsequently releasing many of them on his own DVD of dark 3D animation, “Disturb the Normal”.
